Project Goals

  • To determine risk factors for perforation or necrosis in patients with NEC.
  • To determine the relationship between feeding practices and the progression of NEC.
  • To determine current practice patterns of antibiotic therapy and its impact on disease progression.
  • To determine disease and patient specific factors that predict long term nutritional deficiency and gastroenterological disease.

Study Design

Multi-center, observational, prospective cohort database.

Data Collection  

Hypothesis-driven case report forms created by investigators and GPRN research team.

Data Management

Design, Analysis and Coordinating Center (DACC), Clinical Research Program, Children's Hospital, Boston.

Funding

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Research Foundation. The Gerber Foundation.

Start date: Sept., 2003 End date: August, 2008

  • Enrollment and data collection are continuing.
  • Yale has enrolled 79 infants.
