Principal Investigator Karen A. Diefenbach, MD

Clinical Epidemiologist

Project Goal

Current

  • To demonstrate the feasibility of measuring intra-abdominal pressures via indwelling bladder catheter in neonates requiring emergent surgery for NEC
  • To determine if intra-abdominal pressures are elevated in neonates requiring emergent surgery for NEC.

Future plans

  • To determine if there is a correlation between intra-abdominal pressures and severity of disease in premature infants with necrotizing enterocolitis.

Study Design

Prospective feasibility study (1) to be followed by longitudinal study (2) of infants with NEC.

Data Collection

Indirect measurement of intra-abdominal pressures via indwelling bladder catheter and transducer. Documentation via data collection forms designed specifically for the study

Data Management

Stata V 9.0

Funding
