Project Goal |
- To determine the average radiation
dose to pediatric trauma patients; document baseline exposure and evaluate
the indications for the radiology studies that were ordered.
- To develop a protocol for the studies ordered for pediatric trauma
patients. The effectiveness of the best practices model in lowering
radiation exposure while still maintaining safe clinical practice will
be tested using subjects from Part 1 as historical controls.
|
Study Design |
- Historical cohort study reviewing clinical status, radiology studies
and outcomes of children admitted with trauma or abdominal pain to
the Emergency Department at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital.
- Prospective observational study collecting the same data about children
admitted with trauma or abdominal pain to the Emergency Department
at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital after instituting changes
in radiology studies consistent with a best practices model.
